Jean Davis, PhD, PA, AAHIVS presents 2 clinical case studies that reflect on: the state of HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and in particular, in Washington, DC. She explains the reviesed CDC Recommendations for HIV Testing in Healthcare Settings. Tips for making HIV testing easier are covered as well as information on delivering HIV test results.
  • Connecting Patients Living with HIV to Care (air date: 03/13/13): John W. Hogan, M.D., presents 3 clinical case studies that reflect on: the HIV Treatment Cascade, underdiagnosed and undertreated HIV cases in the US and DC, the national HIV/AIDS strategy, the dangers of delayed initiation of care and the importance of timely linkage to care.
  • Connecting Patients Living with HIV to Care, Part II (air date: 03/27/13): Dr. Hogan presents 2 clinical case studies that reflect on: National HIV/AIDS Clinicians Consultation Center; the National HIV/AIDS Strategy; connecting to services, reporting, and notification; linkages to care after a new HIV diagnosis; HIV in DC; guidelines for improving entry into and retention in care; linkages to care; linkage, engagement, and retention in HIV care; barriers to care; engagement in HIV care; peer intervention programs; and treatment as prevention.   • Initial Management of the Patient Living with HIV, Part I (air date 04/18/13): Dr. Hogan presents 2 clinical case studies that focus on guidelines for the use of antiretroviral agents in HIV-1-infected adults and adolescents. He reviews the goals and procedures during the initial evaluation, including laboratory tests, psycho-social evaluation, plasma HIV RNA testing, drug-resistance testing, genotypic assays, phenotypic assays, and HLA-B 5701 screening.
  • Initial Management of the Patient Living with HIV, Part II (air date 05/08/13): Dr. Hogan interacts with the audience in discussing a clinical case study that focuses on the cabailities needed for primary care physicians to evaluate patients with HIV, including a medical history, mental health history, substance use/abuse history, sexual history, and personal history. A review of systems and physical examination is detailed. Components of a mental health assessment are presented, as well as information on scheduling follow-up exams.
