Mallika MootooBiography

Mallika Mootoo, MD is a pediatrician and clinical lead for the Positively United to Support Humanity (PUSH) Project in Guyana. Dr. Mootoo has been managing HIV infected children for the past 15 years.  She began her career working with HIV+ patients in 2002 at St. Joseph mercy Hospital, Georgetown, Guyana.

From 2004 - 2011 she worked with PEPFAR/AIDS Relief and the University of Maryland (IHV) as the Clinical Team Lead/Senior Technical Advisor for the Clinical care and treatment of HIV infected Adults, Adolescents and Children. In 2009/2010 she opened a clinic for HIV infected Adolescents.

In 2009, along with her sister they began training RNs to assist in running area clinics and monitoring and counseling the stable patients at these clinics. Today there are 9 nurses and two sites. Dr. Mootoo is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Guyana’s Medical School and lectures/trains/mentors’ nurses, and physicians in the care and treatment of HIV infected infants, children and adolescents. Her special Interests are working with adolescents, including the high-risk population.
