Dr. Jessica Murphy
Dr. Jessica Murphy is Professor of Emergency Management Technology and Technology Emergency and the Program Director of the Technology Education Master’s Degree Program in the Department of Industrial Systems & Technology in the College of Science Engineering, and Technology at Jackson State University (JSU)—Jackson, MS. Dr. Murphy joined the Department of Technology an Assistant Professor and was promoted with tenure appointed to the position of Technology Education Master’s Degree Program Director where she assisted the program to annually increase enrollment. In 2011, she served as Co-Principal Investigator of four U. S. Department of Homeland Security grant awards (approximately $1.3 million) which established an Emergency Management Technology concentration at Jackson State University. Students have completed this program from local and state government, community colleges, first responders, and military personnel. In 2019, Dr. Murphy led the efforts to form a multidisciplinary research team (ranging from Emergency Management Technology, Psychology, Computer Science, Meteorology and Journalism and Media Studies. This started the Community Resilience project at Jackson State University; thus, securing approximately $1 million dollars in grant awards from DHS and NSF.
