About the University
Hampton University is a dynamic, progressive institution of higher education, providing a broad range of technical, liberal arts, and graduate degree programs. Founded in 1868 as the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute, the institution was originally established to provide education and vocational training to newly freed slaves. Since then, the university has evolved to become one of the leading institutions of higher learning in the country.
The university offers 90 programs, including 50 bachelor's degree programs, 25 master's degree programs and nine doctoral programs. The university has a satellite campus in Virginia Beach and also has online offerings. Hampton University is home to 16 research centers, including the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, the largest free-standing facility of its kind in the world.
About the Faculty Coach
Dr. Akinremi, an associate professor specializing in cardiopulmonary physical therapy at Hampton University in Virginia, also serves as the director of the pre-health programs.

Hampton University Scholars
We are happy to announce our first group of students receiving support from this program at Hampton University!
The program began July 1, 2023, and continues through June 30, 2024. The requirement for ongoing program participation is outlined below. Our Scholars should:
- Attain a minimum GPA of 3.2 throughout participation in the program.
- Submit the current GPA at the end of each semester.
- Attend and actively participate in >90% of all monthly Virtual Enrichment Curriculum webinars. Complete the evaluations in the Virtual Enrichment Curriculum Guide..
- Complete all required questionnaires and submit them in a timely manner.
- Actively participate in mentoring program.
