About the University
Founded in 1900, Coppin State University is a public model urban, residential liberal arts university located in the northwest section of the City of Baltimore. It is part of the University System of Maryland. It provides academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies, and continuing education. Coppin has a culturally rich history as an institution providing quality educational programs and community outreach services. Coppin was officially renamed Coppin State University on April 13, 2004. The University is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Coppin offers 53 majors and nine graduate-degree programs and a student population of 4000. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the undergraduate and graduate academic programs are accredited by a number of specialized agencies.
Coppin serves Baltimore residents as well as students from around the world.
About the Faculty Coach
Dr. Kavita Hegde is a Physician Scientist with experience in clinical ophthalmology and vision research. She earned her M.D. in Ophthalmology in India, and Ph.D. in Biochemistry at University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is a Professor of Biology and Biochemistry at Coppin State University.
