Dr. Linda JohnsonBiography

Dr. Linda Johnson received a B.A. in Chemistry at Lincoln University, PA in 1985. She completed her graduate studies at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, where she first obtained a M.S. in Biochemistry in 1989 and then a Ph.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology in 1995. She continued her research in molecular reproductive biology as a post-doctoral fellow and later as a research associate at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

In 1999, she joined UMES as an Assistant Professor of Biology where she was promoted and granted tenured in 2005. While broadening her research efforts, Dr. Johnson also expanded her interests to student and faculty development.

Through the many roles Dr. Johnson played at her institution including instructor, mentor, advisor, chair, director, PI and committee member, she has had significant successes in increasing the number of underrepresented students who matriculated into medical and doctoral degree programs.

In addition, through many of those same roles, Dr. Johnson has played a significant role in the development and advancement of many UMES faculty, particularly women of color.
